Hey All
I'm sure this question has being asked a lot sorry to ask again.
i'm new to the forum so hi my name is steve. i have a 2001 ford explorer sport with about 197000 km My truck has the dreaded timing guide noise . i was wondering can i just change the timing guides without removing the chains if possible. if not does anyone have a step by step guide to do the timing chains i know i will need a few specific tools. any help on where to get them would be great. i was thinking maybe it would be easier just to replace the motor with a motor out of a wrecked explorer by the way it is a 4.0 ltr sohc
I guess this was the wrong forum to ask this on. Was hopping for some help there must be another ford forum more helpful. thanks everyone who looked at my post
You have to pull the motor to change the rear cassette . The motor has to be dissasembeld to perform chain work . Not easy , tools required . After Quote most of my clients opt for motor ! Just did one last month . Only put chains n guides in a few .Most opt for motor .
thanks for getting back to me. oil pressure gauge has just started fluttering the last few days. if i increase rpm it goes back to normal but this isn't a constant thing some days oil pressure is fine. the engines compression was fine the last time i checked it. witch was about a year ago but this coming up weekend i will check it again. i have a shop with a lift and all the tools i could need except the ones that lock down the cams. my worry is if i but a used motor in i will end up with the same crap that i have now. the engine has being making the rattle for about 2 years but now it's getting really loud and i better do something soon or i'll end up with bent valves. every thing i read either says go to dealer or swap motor . i was hoping some one on the forum has gone though this and could give me some advice
