Tonight my wife and I drove ex to store and out to eat . We got back home and the wife opened the glove box and the radio quit working. And when she closed the box the radio came back on. can someone explain anything about this? Thanks
Wow that is unusual.
I would start by using a digital multimeter to check continuity between the glove box switch and the radio. Check to see if your yellow (12v constant) or red (12v switched) stereo wires have 12v when the glove box is open.
A wiring diagram would help immensely to know if these two circuits are connected at all or controlled by a general electronics control module.
It may have been coincidence, the battery saver relay on the Excursion sometimes acts up causing the radio, power windows, locks and a few other things to stop working for a while.
Just a thought, next time the radio quits bang on the dash and see if that helps haha.
Tried that! actually I had to replace batteries as they went bad they were only just under five years old. I bought them from auto zone, got the discount because they had 5 year warrenty.
The battery saver relar (bsr) keeps the radio and things on for 10 minutes after you turn the key off. Sometimes it sticks closed and doesn't let things turn on. It may also drain your batteries if it sticks open.
Yes I do know about the battery saver relay, as my ex would cause the ac or radio and windows not to work at times. Just never had the radio go out by opening the glove box and then come back on when it was closed. My wife drove to akron ohio before christmas and the left front caliper froze up. I had it towed home and just fixed it when it was warm enough to work out side on it.then this happened thought some one would have some idea about this. Thanks very much for the help.
The instument cluster is famous for creating all sorts of electrical problems. There's a lot of electrical / electronics that are affected by the battery saver relay that is part of the instrument cluster and due to solder connection failure can lead to problems with anything controled by the BSR.
Had to change the IC twice on my 03 EX
Ya for a little bit my truck wouldn't turn the radio on and the windows were powerless for a few minutes after a cold start! I know it's that relay and its connected to the cluster so the whole thing needs replacing from what I've read. It's weird but gone away since!
I've been having issues with my radio for a wile now, just shuts off randomly. Have to shut off the rig, open the door and restart to get it to turn back on. Make me mad
When you say instrument cluster, what are you referring to ? Could this simply be the ignition switch maybe? Mine has gotten more frequent and the quirky things that tend to get it to reenergize like flicking the interior lights on and off or cycling the door are less effective. Had this since 50k miles not at 211k. 02 diesel.
