I had my battery light come on this morning when i took and and it started a bit dim and got a little brighter then started blinking then when off after a minute or two. Does this mean the alternator could be going bad or should i ignore the light? Oh and after work the light didnt come back on.
you should have around 14 volts with engine running at idle no electrical load if you dont have volt meter/multimeter, auto parts store or better yet electrical rebuilder will check it for you.
Had intermittent battery light about a year ago and it was the regulator on my alternator. Not saying this is definitely your issue. Only way to tell for sure is to pull the alternator and both batteries and have the trio bench-tested.
Going to throw my hat in the ring for an alternator though.
please verify alt is not working correctly-charging your battery(s)
I had same issue and found out that my alt pigtail was faulty and replaced the connector. I have not had any issues since.
I had the same issue back in 2007...at idle the light would flicker and when I raised the RPM the light would go out. Come to find out it was a bad alternator. R&R'd the alternator and the light did not come back in.
However, I have a friend here that has the F350 that now has the light flickering. I offered to help but so far he has declined. He did state that he replaced the alternator twice and the batteries are new...so there maybe a different issue.
Whats the best way to test it? Pull it and have an alternator shop load test it?
After doing a voltage drop test between the battery and the alternator, I would say yes...have the alternator checked preferably at an auto electric shop (second alternative at a auto parts store). At a good auto electric shop they can diagnose the alternator without removing it.
Well the light came back on today, sometimes bright, other times dim. I got 14.2 volts at both batterys. I think i may still get a shop to check it out and see what they have to say
