New England Model

How would I be able to tell a "New England Model" F-150 from any OTHER F-150?

You would likely have to have access to t he factory sticker to see what package options it has.

My old '99 Taurus for instance had the "New England" regional package on it. It came with all the exterior defrosters and such. You would never kow of this package unless you saw the sticker that illustrated the option.

Well, for the record, I just drove the 2009 of mine 1500 miles to Ft. Myers, Florida, and I'm sitting here outside having a cigarette and coffee at 6:30 AM as I type this! Damn great to get away from the 38 inches of snow we had last week, up in CT!!

Truck ran fine, but I had lots of time to think, and I remembered a commercial I had seen in one of the hotels we stayed in, that talked about a "New England Model" ( which seemed strange to me, since we were not IN "New England" anymore) .....and it made me wonder if it was the 4x4 they were talking about.

A few years ago, I recall a truck I bought, that was a 2 wheel drive, which I specifically asked for, and they had to send to Virginia for it, because (as I was told), "they don't sell 2 wheel drives up here in New England."

I just wondered if there were any other options or trim packages that were "New England" specific, is all.

I didn't know there was such a thing. I know what a "Michigan special" is, but it's got nothing to do with little trucks. The only thing I've ever noticed on cars and little trucks, is that more of the Southern people have darker window tint. Do to sunlight and heat I guess. And I know at one time, Ford offered a "Cold weather package". I think that was on the F series only, IIRC. I dunno.

The only thing I found was Portsmouth Ford has one advertised in their flyer. When I checked out the stock number it was a STX but the window sticker shows nothing. So, I think it's just an imaginary or undocumented option package that just happens to be identical to the STX.

sounds like our 'northland eddition"

essentially an STX with the appearance group, and a 'northland eddition' badge.

just a standard ford package group with a regional name to give you warm and fuzzies

The sticker on my F-150 shows that it's a "Texas/Oklahoma Edition". Other than the Sync voice talking with a west Texas drawl, I don't see any other difference.

Yes, I am just kidding.

Based on the responses I've seen here so far, it would seem that Ford has an active and vibrant Sales scheme that is regionally specific. The "Cold Weather Package" idea makes sense (for example).

Just googled it. Cold Weather package was a bigger alternator, bigger battery, a block heater, and a LS rear axle. That was for 1972, the first year it was offered, at least as a package.

And smell like Boston. California has different smog equipment and I couldn't sell mine there according to the sticker under the hood. It's been that way since the 90's. I could trade it in there, and the dealership would probably just sell it in NV or AZ. The cold weather packages were normally sold in AK as you need a block heater when you have days of -0 weather for the high. Personally, I've never had a block heater on a gasser, and I lived in Minnesota where it gets plenty frickin' cold, eh. The dealerships will say a particular vehicle is a "such and such edition" but I'm not even sure Ford recognizes such silliness.

Here's an ad....nothing "special" about it... http://baystateford.com/2013-Ford-F150-Super-Cab/

I had a "Michigan Special" once at a greasy spoon in the Irish Hills when I was up there for the Indy cars. That rim blaster lasted a good ten minutes. CB

michigan special refers to extra heavy duty on highway semi tractors with extra heavy front and rear axles, in michigan you can be as heavy as 160,000 lbs, and it shows in our roads in s.e.mich.
