This is where I put my Wilson mag mount, I think they recommend the center of a large flat horizontal surface works best for a good ground plane. The whip is a great antenna but the height is the problem. I had one on another truck and mounted it on the front bumper on the bumper guard drivers side. I had a 11 1/2 ft camper at the time and that was the best option for me, transmitting forward was great to the rear not so good.
I was concerned too when I first saw that pic, I'm pretty sure it's just frost marks (but you wouldn't know about that would you Jose) I am jealous. It was dark and temp about 30 degrees when I took the picture.

Yeap, I understand now, and for sure I dont know about that here, we have only SUN
I figured I'd have to run a ground strap to the frame so that is no big deal. I love the big whip antennas 'cause it makes my Connecticut born wife crazy! She's says there isn't anything more redneck than that big ole antenna on the back of the truck. So I do it in part just to rattle her cage.
I'm thinking I'll put the CB under the air controls but it will be a long stretch for the mic cord. Might be better to put it under the 20 seat or if I get really ambitious to mount it above the rear view mirror. That would be cool but take some doing.
Thanks for the advice on the mount.
Thats funny my ol lady says the same thing. and I do like to rattle her cage as well. Mines up near the mirror. its a cobra 29 LCD with a K40. stupidly, the previous owner drilled a friggin hole in the roof for a through the roof mount so had to use it for the k40 or have 2 antennas or a hole in the roof. radio has to have a base loaded antenna or id have just kept using the top loaded fiberglass whip on a spring that was up there. that thing whistled so bad going down the road. i hated it anyways. that band is a noisebox i hardly ever use it except when traffic comes to a stop. it has 10 channels of weather built in along with a weather alert that works wether the radio is on or not. the alert tone is loud as heck and would scare the crap out of ya if youre just driving along listening to the engine.

Yeah, I had an external speaker hooked on mine and when you'd be lost in your thoughts and some trucker would come on out of nowhere you'd about run off the road! The Galaxy is a nice unit. I don't know much about the newer Cobras. Bummer when someone drills a hole in YOUR truck... don't they know better?
