Well, I finally had to bite the bullet. I paid $750. But after I cleaned it a little with a steel brush, primed and painted; it now looks new out of the box. We're up against the wall on these parts. It stinks when they just don't make them anymore. Here is where I got it. They ship. Welcome to Coutus Truck Country Take care, Lord bless.
Yup, I agree diesel brad, I paid about the same price as a brand new factory ford dealer would charge. A used one should be about 2-3 hundred. After doing my homework and reading and studyng this and other forums, your an expert on these rad supports. And your right, NOTHING else works!!! The good news---this is the last part on my entire truck that has a shred of rust. I am now 100% rust free! Amen! From now on, about every other month, she's getting an oil bath. No more rust!!
Oh yeah, and if I had me way, I would abolish and ban all salt applications from all roads in America, forever!!! Plow, then lightly sand. If ya can't drive on the roads after that, stay home!!!
Can you say O-U-C-H ??? There's got to be a better way my friend. That place is near me and I've been on their site and everything they move is over the top.
Since these are getting harder to find.guess i'll start picking them up. just found one in the small pull apart here and i am going to get it and some other stuff tomorrow. They just hauled in a 96
Well, I don't feel that bad now. Especially since the one I got was in mint cond. A little wire brush and some smoothing out, two coats of quality primer and a good coat of rustoleum. Looks out-of-the-box new! I'll probably coat it with some special oil before installation. This rad-support will never rust...not on my watch!
Oh, and by the way. I just purchased a garden sprayer. Why? It was an idea of mine since this winter has been so bad with salting of the roads. I fill it with hot hot water and simply spray off the salt. No, it will not wash your truck! But it will remove all salt. VS. paying $3 or $4 in quarters at the local car wash every other day! It works great!
That sprayer is pissing in the wind. You need LARGE quantities of water and/or high pressure. A 2 gallon pump sprayer would have a hard time rinsing ONE fender off. Go to the DIY car wash and put in 2.50. Spend the 3 min doing the UNDERSIDE of the truck. The paint will protect the top side
Yeah, I hear ya. Volume and pressure is low. But, it does remove the coating of salt, really. The underside does not get a whole lot of salt...it's mostly in the fenders and along the sides, but I do spray it all. For next winter, I may invest in a pressure washer. But the problem is...cold, cold weather means frozen hose and a hassle, even if you installed a heated outdoor spigot. That's the beauty of the garden sprayer..fill with very hot water, spray..done. No frozen mess to deal with. And,,,saves three bucks in quarters. If Diesel fuel was $1.50/gal. like it SHOULD be, then I wouldn't have to worry about a measly 3 bucks for the car wash!
The WHOLE underside gets a CONSTANT salt bath when driving it any winter weather
You can pretty much leave the salt on ALLwinter, IF the temp stays at 15* or below. The salt is not active below those temps. Just wait till you get a 32*+ day and hit the car wash. The worst thing you can do for the truck is leave the salt on and put it in the garage
Yup, I totally agree!! We had some nice warm rain yesterday afternoon, it washed away and cleaned the caked on dusty white roads. Then, at some point in the early morning.....Ka-pow!! They must have spread an inch of salt down! Crazy I tell ya...!!! Oh well, as soon as I get home...out comes my garden sprayer and off comes the salt!! EAT SALT DPW!!!
...and believe me, the sprayer works, if it didn't I would taste salt. I'm OCD on the cleanliness om my truck. (how would i know if i taste salt) ??
