Hey Y'all,
I was just wondering if anyone had experience with mounting a cb antenna between the front (drivers side) quarter panel and the hood. FireStik makes a bracket that will allow the mounting of an antenna in this location with all drilled holes being under the hood. Thought that This would be an Ideal location yet just wanna know the functionality of this as far as reception looks etc...any and all suggestions and comments appreciated. Any other ideas, mounting options are also welcomed....Tool box mounts etc...
BTW...I do not want a Magnet mount antenna on the roof...the reception is poor (I have one and have had it tuned) and i cannot drive in a parking garage or my own garage.. and I dont wanna punch a 3/8" hole anywhere in the truck....
a buddy of mine use the firestick mount for his dodge and it worked real good.
for my ford i bent 2" Alumnimum flat metal into a 90 degree angle and placed them between my toolbox and the bed rail (over the rail tool box). Then i have them held down by the weight of the tool box and two self tapping sheet metal screws. After that the last thing was to run a ground wire to the chassis.
how is the reception on your setup (range)....and what is your setup...antenna etc do you have pix? Once again thanks for all the help and appreciate any more that comes this way.
Thanks,
jstnromero
I have a antenna mounted to the lower half of the back of my cab in between my cab and my bed, but the antenna I have is too short for me to transmit (it only comes up about 2 inches above the top of the truck). Does anyone know where I can get a longer antenna(> 5 foot) to use with my mount? I am currently using another magnet mount for now.
I had a fender mount like the one Firestik has on my '91 XL. It was about halfway between the windshield and the end of the hood. Reception and transmission were great. I don't think it looked bad either. I am currently looking for another setup for my '08. I am currently considering something like this: Co Axial Cable Connector
