Pulled the trigger finally
I loaded the truck up with a ton of pellets today. Literally, the HD fork lift operator was too busy watching you tube or something, so I loaded it myself, then went back in to express my dissatisfaction... This truck handled it much better than the old F250 did. Barely leveled the truck out, and didn't feel like it was going to tip over on the slightest turns.
I also tried tow/haul mode for most of the trip, it works a lot better than it did on the old 5 spd auto.
Also took it up to the track last night. I tried all kinds of different launching and shifting strategies.
-Just stepping on it in drive on the first pass was a 16.9.
-Trying to shift it manually, which seemed better on the street (boost didn't seem to drop as much) was much worse, I think it was defueling at 3500 or so, need to shift early.
-Launching in third under boost then shifting to drive got me a 16.5.
-Launching in second under boost was a **** show.
-Launching 4wd under boost in drive was a 16.3.
-Launching 4wd in second was also a 16.3.
All runs were right at 84 mph. most 60 foots were mid 2s, bet of 2.26. I'm surprised the 60 foots were so bad. It must not leave at full boost, I'm sure the ECU tries to limit your fun there. I was surprised leaving in 4wd wasn't worth more than 0.2 seconds over leaving 2wd in third.
Not bad though for what is reportedly an 8600 lb truck plus two people and a bunch of junk.
I know a lot of people here run a tune of some kind, anyone have any before an after quarter mile times? This isn't really a race truck, but at times like this when the race car is being held hostage at the chassis shop and the race truck is broken, it's nice to have something to throw down the track to pass the time. I'd be happy if I could get this thing down to high 13s like my old 6 liter (13.9 at 95, 1.8x 60 foot).
