Redline oil
Redline oil
Okay so ive heard and read in a bunch of different places that redline should be used when synchros start going out. Well, my 1 to 2nd synchros is in pretty bad shape and now 3rd is starting to grind every once in a while. I want to save these before i abosulutley have to rebuild my tranny, as i really dont have the budget for that.
My question is, exactly what type of redline should i get for my tranny, and exactly how does redline help sychros? Does it have to do with the fact that synchros are basically friction plates? And redline has a high quallity friction modifier? Or am i completely off base here? i have the Zf-47 if it matters.

Well if your synchros are in fact damaged no fluid is going to fix that. I would drain the fluid and see what comes out with the fluid. If your in a relatively warm climate I would run the Red Line MTL. Otherwise the D4 ATF. There are no friction modifiers involved to my knowledge.
WTF. Where do half my posts go?
The Redline MTL is Highly praised to help notchy syncros.
I tried it in my 97, but did not work. I ended up spending $450 to rebuild the trans. Now it shift like butter
