400 engine harness

Is there a place I can buy an engine harness for the engine in my '80? The original one I pulled off is hacked, and I can't find any in pick and pull. Does anyone on here have one they would part with?

I am pretty sure I have the DSII ignition, and electronic distributor. Any help is appreciated!

If you can't find one, you could always get the appropriate gauge wire and make your own harness.

Have you checked sites like eBay for the harness or even craigslist for trucks that are being parted out?

Some day someone may start making harnesses for these trucks. But it hasn't happened yet that I know of. Don't overlook the other v8's having harness that you could work with. I am not sure about the oil pressure switch(may be at the top rear on your engine versus lower driver's side on the others) but most everything will be in the same general area and use the same devices on most all the v8's, as long as they have the duraspark II module with the blue grommet.

I did get one off of a 460 that has all of the plugs on it. I didn't know if they were the same! I will see if I can build one using the two! I was just hoping a new one would be easy to find and pretty cheap!

Thanks for the responses!

If I remember right, all of the V8 harnesses with DSII are the same. You don't even have to monkey with it, just plug it in and go!

The inline-6's like what I've got differ in the tachometer plug. The tachometer plug in an inline-6 harness only has a green wire going to it. The V8's have a green wire and a black wire. The black wire is what grounds the signal to the tachometer so that the tachometer will read correctly for the V8's.

My DS-II harness came from a 1982 Bronco with a 302. I had to extend the wires for both the coolant temp and oil pressure sending units. The coolant temp sending unit on a 302/351W is on the driver's side of the intake, while the 351C/351M/400 have it on the passenger side front of the block.

The oil pressure sending unit on a 302/351W is located next to the oil filter, and on the 400 it's on the back of the block behind the intake.

Those were the only two I had to change.
