EFI help please

For those guys that put a injected Ford into their truck I need some help with one wire. the MIL wire comes from the computer to the check engine light, from there is the light hooked to a key on hot or ground? This is the last wire that I have to hook up before powering up the system.

I'd have to look at my wiring, tooo cold, but I think the engine light is powered through the computer; so the light would be grounded out.

ChuckRob,
I don't know what setup you have, but this might help.

Looks like the wire continues on to the STO plug. Self Test Output.

when you look at the diagram on OldFuelInjection.com it looks like the ECC relay powers the computer which the MIL gets it power from and so the other wire from the light or socket should go to ground. What is raising my question is the diagram that i found in a Ford Fuel Injection and EEC book that I have. It shows the light going to ignition run. I just want to make sure which is right so that I don't mess something up.

Hi Chuck,
I have that same book (I think). by Charles Probst?

I was a little confused after looking at too. So I had to look back on my notes and verify back and forth between that book and the old fuel injection website. The book shows factory wiring and the oldfuelinj website shows the simplified swap method (damn darksiders...)

IGN RUN and the EEC relay are one in the same...both feed the STO/MIL/CHECK ENGINE LIGHT...that's full 12 volt positive(in ignition run). So this goes to the light as your (ignition run)positive 12 volts(+)

"from the bulb" you go to the STO plug as a ground wire(not grounded unless running a test) but this also splices off to pin 17 on the computer...pin 17 must be the ground source for the MalfunctionIndicatorLight/CheckEngine and the ground is controlled by the computer.(-) hope this helps!

It helps a lot. The diagram is from the Probst book. And thanks for helping me clear this up. The last time that I dieted a Ford injection harness was 12 years ago, don't have my old notes and being an old .art I can't even remember what I had for lunch yesterday. Thank again for clearing this up for me.

No results yet, I got all the wiring done, power to the fuel pump relay and the pump cycles normally. Power to the EEC relay, the engine turns, and then got hit by a honey do. Hopefully we will get her going today after church.
