Gonna have to pull the glow plugs to get the coolant out of the hydrolocked cylinder(s) and then hope its just a bad EGR cooler. If you do the EGR cooler do the oil cooler as well as that is what caused the EGR cooler to fail. Unfortunately the only other possibility is a blown head gasket.

I guess another possibility is cracked injector cups but I don't know if that would be enough to hydrolock it.

if it is a blown head gasket would there be water in the oil?

Just in case nobody else mentions it...if you pull your glow plugs to check for a hydro locked cylinder be very careful not to be facing the holes when you turn over the engine. Any liquid will be forced out at high pressure that could cause serious injury....

Possible egr cooler rupture also, since it sits over the passenger side of the motor and plumbed into the passenger side uppipe, any rupture here and the coolant leaks down inside the exhaust side of the cooler down the passenger side manifold and into your exhaust
Valves and into the cylinder, causing your hydrolock.

Of course this is a guess, but pull the egr valve and see if it looks wet in there, then, if it does, pull the passenger side glow plugs, pull ficm relay and crank it till she chooches all the coolant out.

I'm assuming this is to repair the egr cooler? If so, it is not a bad price. If you repaired it yourself, the cooler is only $350 for a bullet proof one. I would do it myself, 1200 is a lot of money, but repairing the egr cooler should go ahead and do oil cooler too while it is apart

Go for it!

For the average joe it takes all weekend to do this job, took me 4 days and I was taking my time, it is a lot of work, and the turbo uppipes are a PITA to line back up, I would not Do this work for less than that

For $1200 including parts and labor, I wouldn't be getting my hands dirty, I'd be standing there holding his beer and handing him wrenches!

Let us know how it goes!
