I too am a fan of GM musclecars but not their recent trucks and vans. Ford has them beat as far as gas engine and powertrain durability, as well as chassis longevity IMO.
Just thought would add my .02 on this subject. My '04 4.6L E150's upgrades were a posi in the rear, change to 4.30 gears, and 33" tires. After bolting on the 33's, even with the gear change, the shifting seemed poor. I purchased the SCT device from 5 Star, got a variety of tunes, but find myself driving on the 91 economy tune around town the most.
Shifting is vastly improved, and my acceleration through banked assending clover leaf merging lanes, and out of turns seems, even on economy mode is more confidence inspiring. I dont have solid MPG numbers yet, but I know my milage appears to be improved by at least 15%.
Yesterday my wife and I did a trip out of town on a pretty rough road with steep inclines and the van performed quite well. In the future I will give that same trail a try on the Performance mode to see how MPG and climbing are affected.
5 Star appears to have a good valued product from my perspective.
