Remove leveling kit for 285s?

My new 2003 F350 XLT 4x4 came with 315/75/16 Nitto Terra Grapplers, load range D, mounted on the stock 16x7 rims.
The truck was leveled with about a 2.8" 5-leaf mini pack.

I'll be hauling a 2500 lb truck camper, so I intend to change to a smaller load range E tire, probably 285/75/16.

Is there any reason to keep the leveling kit on, or would it be better to remove it?

Is it possible to remove just a few of the mini-leafs, to reduce it to just a 1" lift?

You can remove as many of the leaves as you want, just start with the shortest ones first. I also haul a camper, weighs about 2600# and run the 315's load range D at 50 psi and have a mini spring pak on the front. Have had no issues. I do have air bags on the rear.

The 315's are a bit too wide for my stock 7" rims. The truck squirms a bit when lane changing. I installed a Hellwig sway bar, Rancho 9000s, and Torklift Stableloads, which helped some. I figure smaller, higher psi tires would give it better highway manners, and better acceleration.

I'm wondering if 285's with the leveling kit will leave a big gap in the wheel well.

compared to the 315's, yes. i don't think it will look silly though (but it probaby will to you at first after being used to the 315's.)

hell i'm running stock size tires on my 350 with the exact same leveling kit:

my 285's will be here tomorrow, but i'm putting them on the 16x10 rims in my sig (sold the 315's on them).

i'd leave it on. i think a little extra tire gap looks better than the *** way up in the air.

Your pic is 265's with a leveling kit? Actually, it looks better than I expected.

Maybe I should consider 265's instead of 285's, since my stock rim is only 7" wide.

That probably would look really strange to me, dropping from 315's to 265's.

i'd do 285's if i were you. looks like your springs don't have the amount of negative arch mine do, so you may be a touch higher than me.

i have E-rated 285's coming from treadwright.com... at $144 a piece with a warranty you can't beat it.
