A cold engine keeps rpm's up on start up. Not sure about larger turbos, that would be news to me. I asked my Ford service tech son, he said he there is no turbo size change.
Usually the idle is elevated on cold start-up. This along with richer burn is part of a strategy to light-off the catalytic converters as soon as possible for emissions reasons. Pretty typical and nothing to worry about.
The guys over at F150 online are talking about the turbos.
Went from 48mm wheels to 51mm.
On start up, it defiantly reves up and then opens the BOV, you can hear it when standing in front.
Then it idles down to a typical high idle.
Not something I am worried about, just curious.
Sure it's the BOV's? Not the wastegates? Either way, opening either side would be a measure to prevent boost buildup during elevated idle. Having either opened wouldn't help in evacuation of moisture one bit.
