heated mirror switch question

Hey guys I want to install a switch for heated mirrors and purchased an explorer mirror heat switch so it willl turn off by it self. the only thing is how do you wire it?? I just have the switch not the plug. Do you need the plug? or can you just use the switch and maybe solder on or use spade connectors?

Thank you,
-AJ

Having the pigtail would make a "cleaner" install, but either of your options could be done.

i used a carling switch in my 02, and wired it to the ignition switch.
i leave it on when heated mirrors are needed, this way i know the mirrors will not ice up after the switch times out.
a very important feature to have when plowing.

Search the web... I cant find it again but when I did my buddy's truck mirros, I know I ordered a pigtail for about $20 for the defrost switch from the 91 - 94 Explorer.
Or you can check your local salvage yards and get one from there.

I did the 94 exploder defrost switch on mine and it works great. Nice to have them shut off after 10 minutes.

I was wondering when I swap my mirrors to the '08-up style (with heat) IF I could use the window lock switch to operate the heat?

Yes you could, just use it to control a relay to send power to the mirrors.

That's good to know! Thanks! Is there a separate switch in the '08 up trucks to handle the power fold and telescoping?? -wonder if somehow, without butchering my door panels I could swap in the later switches?

Hey guys i found out the part number from napa which is a food oem part number i have it at work so I'll post the number tomorrow. But the only problem is the switch i have is obsolete and the pigtail is hard to come by. One dealer on Ohio had one for 50 bucks so i picked it up. I did find a few online after the fact for around 25 . I will post the part number tomorrow thanks again for all the help

Also what size fuse should i use for the mirror heat? I read on another forum site how to do the wiring but they didn't state the fuse size?

The mirrors pull very little. I have a 10a inline for my mirrors.
As for the pigtail...if you haven't bought it yet, hold on. My buddy got his last spring and bought the pigtail new with the switch. I can get the info for you. It cost like $20. Works perfect too...I installed it all and it worked great.
