10 blocks are required, 2 for each cross sill. There should be 1 front and Rear Cross sill (these form the front and rear of the bed), then 3 intermediate cross sills (simple ones, under the wood). Mar K gets good morks from customers. I am doing mine this summer and am going with their products.
The bed gets attached to the frame by 8 bolts, and there are no holes for the second (from the bottom) cross. So I see 6 blocks not 10. And do I actually need blocks under the metal brackets?
The blocks keep the metal from crushing, nothing else. I guess you should call them support blocks, as they don't really mount, but support the metal from disfiguring. All my cross sills have blocks (ala 10), you can't really see the front and back ones with the bed on.
I am not saying that you might not only have 6...who knows what Ford did over time, it could also be due to where they were built (mine was in the twin-cities plant if memory serves me correctly).
Does anyone have a diagram of how the blocks are supposed to mount with the cross sills? The instructions with the block set are unclear and my truck didn’t have them when I started restoring.
The block sit up inside the rails. wood block> U rail with the U down over blocks> boards> etc.
Now they say the block are of different sizes and what size block goes where I cant say as I have a cut down style side metal ribbed floor on my flare side.

I see page 17 in the LMC catalog for these trucks has a great diagram. You can download the catalog for free. After all these years, I did it the other day and learned a lot.
The catalog I downloaded has the step side diagram on pg 25 but it doesn’t show the location of the wood blocks. I’m not sure what purpose they serve.
If the blocks are not installed correctly the bed will not be level and if not installed at all the body lines will not line up.
The big one, dont use the blocks and see what happens to the channels when you tighten down the bed bolts
The blocks keep the channels from being crushed before the bolts get tight.
On style side beds the channels face up and there is a tube between the bed floor and channel to keep the bed from being crushed when tighten down.
