i got a 1990 f150 4.9 and i have a thrush turbo muffler i want to put on it but i noticed the two cats and realized one is for the smog pump if i cut off behind the smog cat and do with out the other will i still get the sound im looking for?or do i need to cut off the smog cat to ?
You need two cats for emissions reasons. Where do you live and do they do emissions testing. If they do and you cut off the rear cat you could fail.
The two cats are going to quiet things down pretty good. You may just want to cut off the exhaust behind the cat and see how it sounds. I did that on my 89 Bronc and ended up using a strait pipe to connect the tailpipe and it had a really nice sound to it. With a turbo muffler or even glass pack and it was almost as quiet as stock.
because the o2 sensor is pre cat you should be able to take both of them off. if they do emmisions throw on an aftermarket high flow cat and you should be fine if you have the stock tune on the motor. if you changed it then it could fail

ilive in arizona and im pretty sure they dont have emmissions but it wouldnt bother me to leave the smog pump cat on i would just like to ditch the second one and the muffler but do you think it would still sound stock with one cat and that turbo muffler?
if you want it to sound stock get factory replacement muffler from autozone or rockauto. if you dont want it stock sounding the turbo thrush should work just be warned that if you get away from the stock sound they can sound like a tractor. you can usually take them both off and just leave the emissions stuff off (Air pump hose) and if you are worried about emissions than you can leave the first one on or get an aftermarket high flow cat
