I currently have a 4" cat back with a muffler delete. Pondering installing a cat delete pipe keeping everything above that stock. What can I expect by doing this? Just how much louder will it be (if any)? FYI my cat back was custom installed
I have heard a 4" turbo back cat and muff delete and it was abit lout for my taste.
I was thinking of doing a cat delete. However, it appears that some states are going to start smog checks on diesels starting as early as 2009 so I left mine on.
I have a catback with the muffler and yes it is louder than stock...Not bad loud but you will know it is there it has more of a rumble wether it be cruising along or wide open..Every body says on the outside all they here is a wooshing sound and the motor though kinda weird..I have the cat delete pipe but have yet to put it on..I may give it a try this week..Oh mine is MBRP what brand did you get?
No emissions in my county, so don't have to worry about that. Of course if it has to go in for warranty work will have to have the cat slapped back on. My cat back was installed with a Walker BTM, lost the BTM and gained a large grin!

CAT requirement is a FEDERAL STANDARD, not a state or county requirement!
i have heard the mbrp with straight, muffler delete w/cat, cat delete w/muffler I personally like the cat delete with the mbrp muffler BUT this is not legal for road use so if you happen to live in a fine state like ohio you will get pulled over. The cat delete with muffler gains alot of rumble with a little less whistle. straight pipe sounds like a vaccum cleaner running not my taste.

First off BPofMD got it right, rather or not you have emissions, if the cops pull you over for something and happen to notice that something is a little off with your exhaust(sound or smoke etc) and they take a peek and find no kitty, more then likely you will be cited particularly if it's quota time. Second bold part, unless you have a dealer that is really trying to take you to the cleaners, not having the cat is only going to void your exhaust warranty. Considering other things that can be voided with the mods, the exhaust is negligible(atleast in my mind), my dealership knows I don't have the kitty on my exhaust and the only thing that voided was my exhaust warranty and I have had other things taking care under warranty after them finding no kitty on my exhaust.

Every state you run the risk of getting fined for, some or more so then others but I've known people to get fined and there aren't emissions for diesel required there(yet) and in past experiance in those places they didn't much care about diesels because they were always believed to be loud and bellowing smoke, but you are running more and more of a risk nowadays.
I know that the cat is a federal requirement, however, we do not require emissions testing in the county I live in. Therefore I am not concerned about a cat check that normally would be required in an emissions testing... BpofMD have a beer, it's O.K...
By the way, get quite a few "thumbs up" from our local law enforcement. Recently did a T.I at the local and went over my existing mods with a few officers. No problem!

I was only saying that because Ohio is the only state were i have known guys to get pulled over in there pickups pulling trailers for recreation and get a ticket for not having dot numbers on the sides of the truck, which i just found out if you are gross 10,000lbs or over total weight you have to have a dot physical and dot numbers what a crock IMO
