How to visually I.D. a roller engine?
Is there anyway to visually I.D. a roller motor? I've been looking for a rebuildable core for my '90 F250, the 5.8 that is in there now is on it's last legs- it's just a matter of time before I have to call the tow truck to come and rescue me.
Do these ford small blocks have serial numbers that can be decoded ( where are they located? ) or can you tell by the sticker on the valve cover?

The 5.8 didn't get a roller cam until '94 so narrow down your search to '94+ trucks, and then look for F4TE casting number on the block down by the starter. Visual confirmation that the motor actually has a roller cam in it involves removing the drivers side valve cover and looking down a pushrod hole to see if there is a dogbone around the lifter.
