Which tensioner do I need to replace if the belt chirps until the truck gets good and warm? Nothing changes if I turn on the ac. 09 psd with 102,700 miles. Are bot pulleies the same? Thanks
Well I hope so...be sure to check the belt as well. It may be bad now too. Sometimes if you squirt a little water on the belt over the pully it may quiet down...then you know you have the right one.
Well here what I found out, when I bought the truck in September they replaced one. So they say. Well I looked down and seen what seemed to a new looking tensioner. And a new belt I think. Do you think that the a/c belt tensioner needs replaced. It was about 40 degrees here this afternoon and no chirp at all do I need to do anything. Or will it go away on its own. Don't attention to sig got rid of that truck.
It could also be an idler. As far as the tensioner, lay under the truck(truck not running) look up at the tensioner. If the gap is not even where it pivots or looks like it is cocked that is the culprit. If you know what a failed one looks like it is fairly obvious.
I got both of the tensioners ordered they will be here in the morning. I will not get a chance to look under the till then. How do you know if it is an idler? Was it really that hard to make these thing last just as long as they used to. I never had to replace any thing like this on my old 7.3L. Sorry to vent.
Got a chance to look under the hood and up from the bottom of the truck today. I don't even know where to begin tearing stuff out. But nothing seemed out of sorts and the noise was not there this afternoon. But there is a new accessory tensioner and a new acc belt and idler. The paint is staring to come off of the idler. It was replaced about 3600 miles ago. Would the fact the the paint is hit and miss make the sound when the truck is cold? Is there a thread on haw to replace a/c tensioner and belt around. Thanks for any help

Replacing the AC tensioner is the same as the accessory tensioner. BUT, you need to remove the accessory tensioner to get to the AC tensioner it is behind it. If you can see the accessory tensioner just look closer to the engine to find the other. It is clocked about 90 degrees different.
