Take the upper one off, then replace the tensioners from the top or under the truck?

Started truck this morning and it was chirping then I dumped water onto the belt and the chirping stopped for a short time. So do I need to replace the tensioners?

yeah that is it. I would go from the top to do the job. I attached a file that kind of shows where they are at and the belt routing. Just take your time and it will probably be a knuckle buster.

I replaced mine from underneath. I did remove the upper shroud as I also replaced the belt. The actual tensioners are pretty low so the easiest way to reach them is from the bottom.

I am just not sure the tensioners are bad they do not look bad, and would they stop chirping after I put water on the belt. If the tensioner were bad is the water going to make the noise stop? Just trying to save some time and money.

possible it is just the belt making the noise but that is not the track record for this motor.

In this motor it is always the tensioners that are bad. I really don't know what to advise as the cheapest route.

My nature is not to just slap a bunch of parts on it so I know what you mean.

Any way to visually inspect the belt and see if you can see any excessive wear? that may be the best course of action for now.

The belt looks new and I think that the AAC belt was replaced with that tensioner. So that leaves the ac belt and tensioner. I bought both belts and tensioniers but once I looked at the truck nothing seems wrong with them. I am going to try a little belt dressing in the morning to see if that changes anything. I must not have a reader for a PDF I don't see the file but thanks anyway.

I had to replace mine on my 7.3.

They wear out no matter what engine or even brand of truck you got.

I don't think it is that it is wore out it is that there is no room to get at it. How long of fix is this four hours give or take?

Take off upper shroud half, unhook fan clutch lock up connector , you have to use a long 3/8 ratchet on the tensioner or the proper tool. once the belt is off the tensioner u feed it around the fan between the shroud and fan. for the price and headache I would change the inside or a/c one too. It,s the bearings that are making the noise so dressing or water may not be the best diagnostic. Take your time and hold your tongue to the right.

Well I just got back in from replacing both belts and ac tensioner. It took three hours not bad. It took a little longer because I first put the wrong tensioner on. 1.5hrs is how long it should have took. I will need to do this again because the only ildeler that is not replaced has a little slop in it. I had to order it, won't get it till Monday. I am interested to see if it will make noise in the morning. But to take the ac belt off u have to take the bolt off the lower radiator shroud, 13 mm i think. Thanks for all the help.
