So I just got my truck back from the shop after getting an icon 4.5 lift with 20" bmf novakanes and 37x13.50 toyo m/t's and I took it straight on a 250 mile round trip drive and I knew I was going to have a loss of mpg but I only got 250 miles out of a fuel tank of fuel lol. Now I'm wondering if I added a cold air intake if that would maybe help get some mpg back?
Thats what is called the hidden cost of a lift and big tires. Only real option for better economy, other than the obvious, is tune and delete. Dont waste your money on an intake.
The mileage sucks for sure. I went from a 37-13.50-20 Pro Comp Extreme Terrain to a 35-12.50-20 Nitto Trail Grappler M/T to see if it helps. Best mileage I got from the Pro Comps on the highway was 13.47mpg with a 3.31 rear end. I'm not expecting much back but I could live with 15mpg. After all, we don't buy these things because they're economical I have a 3.5 inch lift if it matters. Now I just have to get some miles on these new tires!! I'll post back after some driving to compare.

Just a ? how are you getting ur speedo calibrated with a 3'31 rear gear and 20 s? with those tall of tires.
Unfortunately right now, I'm using my GPS as a speedometer just to keep the po po from requesting donations from me As soon as the engine warranty is up, I'll be tuning it with the H&S Street Tuner. (We have emissions testing) In the meantime, I may have the dealer set it up for the largest wheel/tire combo for the 3.31 rear.
I see what you're saying. I'll have to sit down and calculate it with corrected math. I really don't drive the truck as often as I'd like. She is my workhorse for my boat and car trailer so the mileage doesn't mean that much to me.
Unfortunately the only thing that will really give you any kind of improvement is slowing down at this point. Lifting the truck makes it push more air and increases wind resistance, and bigger tires increase rolling resistance which makes the situation worse.
I lost around 2 MPG simply switching from the OEM 275/65/R18 ContiTrac's to Nitto 295/70/R18's with stock suspension.
Add large tires and change the suspension and you'll drop quite a bit based on what I experience with such a simple tire change.
My last tank was 14.0 computer average without a trailer.
For example, if I were to spend an entire tank driving locally I used to be in the low 16's with the OEM tires.
Now I'm in the low to mid 14's in the winter and high 13's, low 14's during summer if I were to do the same driving.
