5r110 question

Looking for a 5r110 to rebuild before the one currrently in the truck grenades. So I found one and the guy tells me that he forgot to put the plug in the drain pan and started the engine and let it idle for five minutes or so before checking the fluid level and realizing that there was zero fluid in the pan. He says it is just the front pump that needs to be replaced??? Really??? Whatcha all think?

I'd appreciate some opinions

He's asking a little less than $500 with the converter. It is an 06 with 100k on it and mine is an 03 with over 200k.
