I am looking to change the power steering pump on my 93 Ranger with a 3.0 and my Haynes manual is not real clear onchanging it. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or if there are any links to any info on changing this sucker.I have looked at it and it dosent look real easy but Im not sure. Thanx all.
I believe you will need to rent or purchase a press tool to remove and install the pulley. They are pressed onto the pump shaft and have no retainer bolt.
Someone had a 'better idea' to save the cost of drilling, tapping, and providing a fastener. Only problem is that they are supposed to be only R&R's one time before needing to be replaced.
The hose fittings are likely 'push together', and you would need the release tool to remove them. Do not unscrew the fitting from the pump body without removing the hose first if it has such fittings. The internal O-ring that seals can be damaged by rotation, and lead to seepage or leaks.
When you put it together, try rotating the pulley by hand to get fluid throughout the pump before starting the engine.
