quick question for y'all. my p/s pump has gone from struggle to complete armstrong steering. seems like i've read that it takes a special tool to remove the pump, but is it the pulley that's the problem? found a p/s pump removal tool at car quest for fords for about $25. is this what i need to get it off the truck safely? i am kind of ham-handed with wrenches and would like a touch of guidance on this.

If i remember correctly when I replaced my steering pump I did after strong-arming the steering wheel and breaking the steering column well guess the bearing inside I let the hard steering go for a long while which I shouldnt have done anyways I do not recall using any special equip to take off the old pump but if you did need a tool try Autozon e loan a tool.
No special tools needed to remove the pump.
Do be careful when you remove the pressure line, there is a small O ring just outside the double flare (on the end of the fitting) you don't want to lose or tear.
Also be prepared for the fluid you will lose out of the pump and lines, don't stain the concrete driveway.
But you do need a power steering pump pulley tool to remove and reinstall the pulley.
Most parts stores have one for around 20 dollars, but I have had mine for quite a while.
The same puller also work on the vacuum pump pulley when you need to replace it.

thanks guys for the help. have been out of commission for a while. helping a guy get a house ready to go on market and the last minute details are absolutely killing me. at least we're through now and i'll have some time to work on truck and get it to where i can back a trailer up without having a workout. not too worried about fluid loss as i've got a 1/4 mile gravel driveway to soak it up. LOL since we've had 18 inches of rain the last three weeks, don't need it to settle the dust here.
