which clutch?

so my clutch is hardly there. I have a hard time getting it into gear and have to turn the truck off to shift into reverse and i cant go into third while driving. Its a 73 f250 4wd with a 390. I have found cluthc kits for around $150. The truck gets driven about 50 miles every 2 weeks so Im trying to stay around the $150 range. I know you get what you pay for. does anyone have any suggestions for which kit would work for me? these are the two i have found and am leaning towards.
And anything else you thing else clutch related that could possible be bad from my description that I might need to replace along with it.

Sachs is pretty popular, but dont mail order it. Go to your local retailer and order one up. If its missing pieces or something isnt correct, you really dont want the hassle of shipping back to jc whit.

I am guessing here a little but I think you might need more than a clutch with it not going into third gear. Mine used to do that and it would pop out of third gear too. i ended up going through the tranny too when I did the clutch.

I always use LUK clutches for a good stock replacement. When I did the clutch in my 97 f150, it had a LUK in it from factory.

NAPA uses re-branded ZOOM clutches, which are fantastic clutches for the money.

I have always used ZOOM clutches and have been extremely happy with them. Not too grabby like some aftermarket clutches, but I have never had them slip even behind strong powerplants and large tires.

I did try an O'Reilly house brand clutch and was far from impressed. When out on the trail I have noticed ALOT of slip when in high grip situations, even in first gear.

This is the first I have heard of the NAPA clutches being rebranded ZOOMs. I have always purchased the 30000 series ZOOM clutches from sped shops

Would the 5 spring clutch from NAPA be smoother or handle more torque than the 4 spring clutch from O'Reilly's?

Hmmm... seems NAPA has changed things around since the last time I sourced clutch parts for FE engines.

You could tell the rebranded ZOOM kits since they used the same Zoom part number.

The NAPA 1107229 is a good kit, long travel with good holding power. Don't who makes that one. About $112.

Either way, I recommend the Zoom MU-1101 kit. About $200 at Summit Racing.

You've tried adjusting the linkage, right? No point in wasting money on a new clutch if you don't need one.

Also recommend swapping out the bronze pilot bushing for a sealed 6303 roller bearing.

Is the push type diaphragm clutch better than the coil spring? I have found each of these in 5 spring and a push type in 4 spring. Would the 5 spring push type be the best?

Never heard the term 4 spring or 5 spring.

You have long style which is factory ford.

Diaphragm style which is newer and GM

And Borg/Beck.

Use the long style
