Which manifold for low end?

Well right or wrong I went ahead on the FelPro steel valley pan model torqued down to 32 pounds per the gasket instructions. I left out the rubber and just used silicone around the water and on the end rails. The rivets ended up outside the mating surfaces so they were left in place. FelPro has put a lot a research into getting this engine to seal. It looks like a very durable seal and I don't expect any trouble. I will take it on a long trip here shortly and when I get back I will update my opinion then. It will be a hot mountain filled 1000 mile trip.

FYI, I called Weiand & asked if they had dyno shgeets to prove the Stealth was good from 0-6800 rpm. Their answer was "NO"!!!

Warning, warning, warning, DO NOT USE THE FELPRO #1230 competition intake gasket!!!!! I absolutely guarantee it will fail!! The last gasket I installed was a 'ROL' & it seems to be working. I also understand Ford has 2 new intake gaskets for the 460. One is .060" & the other is .120"

Also, buy the more expensive Cloyes timing gear & chain (approx $87). According to Cloyes it has a much better timing chain, less stretch & lasts longer. The gears are the same.

Use 'water only' in your cooling system during the cam break in. Anti-freeze will eat the rings & bearings if you have a leak as I did!

Change your oil immediately after the cam break in. The cam lube will plug your oil filter. My oil pressure went from 70 psi, to 56 psi, to 46 psi in 3 days. Scared me to death.
I would have to second that motion....I just yanked the Edel. performer RPM intake off of my 351w....I used Fel-Pro #1250 intake gaskets....I had 4 ports with vacuum leaks, one was pulling oil in, and on both sides the gaskets split in half and shifted forward.....I chased the idle problem for 6 months.....#@$%&!!!!

Which manifold for low end?

Well big block fans it’s all done and the testing has begun. I drove it around town all day today and did about 25 miles out on the local highways and 40 miles city driving. Lots of hills around here so it was a pretty fair test. First, I have to comment on the quality of this Holley carburetor. It’s a 750 vacuum secondary unit that I bought new for this swap. It is absolutely flawless. It rivals injection. Just touch the key cold or hot and it’s lit and idling perfect. I did not even have to touch the idle. Everything is spot on. The main jet may be a touch lean due to the big plenum on this intake but the response and smoothness makes this one of the best carbs I have ever not had to mess with. Good job Holley.

I am happy to report the Weiand Stealth does work on a stock 460 and the bottom end is great. Nearly no throttle position just surges you ahead of traffic and when up to speed on the freeway it will pull 55-75 in just a blip of the throttle. The kick down isn’t even hooked up yet. It almost feels like a huge tail wind just hits you in the back and your there because it sure doesn’t take much throttle to do it.

The whole engine swap was well worth it and I can say I will never own another diesel. It’s so smooth and quiet I can even hear the kids talking in the back. I have to look at the gauges just to see if it’s running. I even surprised a few people at some stop lights on an uphill intersection that the west bound lanes merge into one lane and a couple times today I out pulled a few cars that thought this 7000 pound van may hold them up. Not quite, as I easily put them into my rearview mirror hitting 65 mph in city traffic in short order. Whoopee! I haven’t done that since I was a much younger kid.

Monday I will top it off and check the mileage, but so far it seems very efficient. Next weekend we take it towing. I have a date with some 26 mph hills.

Which manifold for low end?

Glad to hear it went well. My 268 is not too large. It idles in gear just fine(mild lope), holds 18" of vacuum and will pull a stump out of the ground. I only have 3.00 gears, C6 and 32" tall tires. It will leave my 2001, 5.4L Lower 1st gear ratio and 3.55 gears, sitting in the dust. The 460 has over 180,000 miles on it and has never had the heads off of it. It has an Edebrock Performer manifold, 750 Ede. carb, Comp cams 268H, lifters and matching valve springs, an Edelbrock double roller timing chain, Dynomax headers, 2 1/4" true duals with 40 series Flowmaster Mustang mufflers.
It runs like a scaulded dog. The cam change made a world of difference in power. I already had the intake, carb and headers on it. With a set of 3.70 gears, this thing would really walk the dog!!!
