Was wondering what is all involved in removing the upper intake on a 2000 expedition with a 5.4. I made a big error by taking someone's advice on cleaning a throttle body and let's just say the head of a tooth brush is in the intake.
Tried but you can not get your head over the hole to see it. I tried a shop vac and could not find it and also borrowed a video scope and could not see it. Thought it best to pull the upper at this point to verify everything out.
The most effective way but not most efficient way to clean the throttle body is to remove it to clean it.
The most efficient way is to use a cleaner fluid that you can purchase at the auto parts store with the connector hose to a vacuum intake and have someone help you by keeping the engine from stalling.
Mine had started to leak from valve cover so I pulled throttle body, intake, valve covers, changed out all the spark plugs and boots, have all new gaskets and throttle body clean as a whistle.
Oh don't worry I will never do it on the vehicle again but the task at hand is the intake verifying it is clean. So can I just separate the upper from the lower on the engine or must I pull it as one and then separate it??
It also will be getting plugs changed while I see them all.
