t19 shift problem!!

t19 shift problem!!
The small pin came out of my shifter that keeps it from swinging side to side and when fixing it I pulled the shifter out of the top of the tranny thinking the shifter would split in two pieces and I could replace the spring and cap couldnt screw the **** off. Now ive put the shifter back in, was in first when I took it out thought I put it back in where first is at, and now I cant get into gear it will swing side to side like its in neutral but with the clutch to the floor will not go into gear, I searched and found the jiffy lube stories but I did not drain any fluid so I didnt remove the wrong bolt oppsite the drain plug. The truck hasnt been started in over a month and I tried this without starting the truck, that make a difference??? If its not as simple as starting it how can I get it lined up?

If you have trouble shifting the selectors, hold (or have someone hold) the clutch pedal down - without the engine running - to take the load off the gears.
