The OP determined that his engine used a quart in 4000 miles. We already discussed that many mfrs regard a quart in 1000 miles being "reasonable". The thread seemed to take the turn that *any* oil consumption is abnormal, and this is not related to my view of reality in which a quart used in 2000+ miles is not reason for alarm.
Absolutely, if your engine starts consuming significant oil all of a sudden, it may mean you may have a problem. But if your engine consistently uses a quart in 2000 miles, I don't think an engine rebuild is warranted, and losing sleep over it is not necessary.
