I'm considering purchasing a 2003 Expedition XLT 5.4L with 43,000 miles. Is there anything I should be looking for prior to purchase? This is the first year of this body style. Were there any issues. I previously owned a 1998 5.4L and we liked that vehicle. Thanks in advance for any input or advise.
I have an '03 and love it. Mine has the 4.6L and about 125,000 miles. If it was well taken care of, with that low of mileage, can provide you a great long lasting vehicle.
We've had our '03 XLT w/leather for 3.5 years and 26k miles. It has a 115k on it now. The only thing it's needed are the blend door motors in the back replaced. The floor/ceiling once, hot/cold twice (the first replacement, a Dorman, failed within a couple months. I replaced it with OEM).
I did replace the brakes a couple weeks ago due to pulsing, but the old pads still had 3/8" on them. Of course I don't know when they were replaced before we got the truck though, but have heard people say they have to replace brakes every 15k.
The 5.4l that's in it had plugs done at 100k, none broke. My wife uses the cheapest gas she can find (or just lets me fill it up more often than not), but I do run a couple bottles of Techron through it once a year). It uses no oil and doesn't smoke, but has started a very small oil leak since switching to Pennzoil Ultra 5w20.
