Sorry to offend the guys with the 5.4 Excursions but why do a dually conversion on a V8 gas Excursion? Guessing this mod was simply for looks and not to actually tow.

Back when they made X's recall seeing pics of professionaly done dually excursions that looked really nice.

22.5's will get you tons and tons of miles but they don't handle well in the snow or rain. Keep in mind they are made for semi's and not pick ups or suv's. A decent set will set you back $4-5K with adapters.

There is a rim made for Super Duty's and Excursion that are bolt on 19.5's.

A few years ago after we got hit with hail saw a Super Duty dually towing a dump trailer pulled over on the side of the road with what looked like 24.5in semi wheels. My guess what he was pulled over because the wheels stuck way out past the fenders.

Yeah I am not a fan of wheel adapters, I've mentioned it a few times on here and talked about what can happen. The shipping wars show was a PERFECT example!
Ya, I saw that one. I guess that is what happens when you don't check to make sure things are tight... Hey this sounds like the torque wrench conversation we had not too long ago.... Those 2 on the shipping show, robbie don't seem to work on their own stuff...
This is directly from their facebook page.
"JUST SO WE ARE CLEAR...There are no problems with the adapters on the 22.5 conversion, we have towed half a million miles with absolutely no problems! The lug nuts on the dodge were swapped at a local shop and that is what caused the studs to snap! You must use the correct lug nuts! These adapters have proven themselves up to 50k lbs!! THANKS!"
I don't know about you but I always either watch them when the torque my wheels on, or I check that they are tight when I get home.

These are the Superduty 19.5 rims with 265x70x19.5 load range G tires. 34.2" tall.

Personally no one touches my vehicles, I do everything myself. I can understand and see it all the time where some shop does something wrong causing a problem. But I have seen it more than a few times where "adapters" cause problems just like on the show. Sure the adapter itself won't fail but the studs will. They, just like many got lucky for awhile. Now their truck is all messed up, they could have killed someone besides themselves with 300 pounds of tires rolling around at 70mph but its ok, well throw new studs on and continue using them.

Just because something "holds up" for a certain amount of time doesn't mean its right.

I've never been one for appearance mods, but I value performance. I strongly dislike any kind of mod that sacrifices performance for appearance, which is a great example of what this is.

I'm with you, after 15 years in auto repair, I don't like letting anyone else work on my vehicles. I always loosen and re-torque wheel nuts after having any tire work done. that is, if I don't remove and replace the wheels myself.

Haha, so I'm not the only one **** about that kind of thing. Two months ago a tire shop tech cranked down the lugs on my wife's '11 Sienna with an impact gun. Until that point I was the only one that had ever removed the wheels on that one. When I questioned the manager afterward he insisted to me that the tech would use a torque wrench when he got it on the ground. Which he did, but all that did was make sure they weren't undertorqued, which they certainly weren't.

I took it home and verified that they were torqued nearly twice the specified torque...at that point I called them back and had them replace all my lugs and studs!

it kills me to watch the guys at les schwab use those "torque rods" on the impact guns and then lean on the torque wrench well past the "click". when I need tire work I put my rigs on jack stands in the driveway and haul the wheels down to the tire store. they always seem so surprised when I tell them I have loose wheels.

the firestone dealer near me did $400 worth of damage to my wife's gti by over tightening the lugs.

needless to say , I don't like letting anyone touch my multi-thousand dollar rides, especially the wheels.

Talking I Bought it !

... I am now going through it and fixing the problems and making it perform as it should. It does ride like a log wagon and it does have horrible manners on the highway. When I am done it will have air-ride and a cummins/allison conversion ... and hopefully F-450 10 lug axles ... depends on budget constraints.
