question about using c4 corvette suspension, engine, tranny
I am looking at a 55 f100. I am considering using the kit from flat out engineering and putting a C4 front and rear suspension under it. I was a welder in the military and can to the welding part pretty easy. Hopefully will be able to move the front forward 1-2" and get the front tires more centered. My question involves the engine and tranny for the truck. Might add, I am not a great engine mechanic. Shadetree at best. Anyway while looking at the suspension components and cost to purchase, it made me think about trying to find and buy an entire car with possibly rebuilt engine, maybe bad fiberglass or interior(basically just a good price on running car), and just striping it down and putting the suspension and engine and tranny in the truck. Maybe power brakes and whatever else would work or I could modify to fit. Not sure what all could be used from donor. Then just sell the rest of the car for parts. I know some Chevy fans would cringe at disamantling a corvette and possibly some Ford fans for using the stuff. It just seems like a more cost affective way, if a guy could find the right donor. I realize the engine choices in pre 92 is L98 and 92-96 is LT1, tranny I think is 700R4. I guess that tranny would fit. Anyway for you guys that have done engine swaps and worked on these old trucks for years, will that combo work? Am I missing something? I know there is going to be something needed to be done in fuel delivery area. Plan on tank between bed rails. And I guess I will need special fuel pump and possible a return fuel line. Also I guess radiator is an issue. Would need a special one. I am assuming a company like painless could do the wiring harness. Lots of unknowns for me. But even with normal(common) swaps with these trucks there will be lots of unknowns for me. I have redone a early camaro and early nova but my first attempt at a ford. Plus the Chevys I did were standard swap type stuff. Any advice is appreciated.
