Gage Readings
Thought the other day how I would like to take it off the bottom of my dash and go back to the original indicators in my dash cluster so bought new sending units and hooked them back up...
They dont read anywhere close to what the live gages read. Oil off by 20 + lbs. Temp low by 60 degrees. Amps flicker but stay flat on 0.
Granted this truck is an origianl 68 and old is getting to be a reality.
But, do you think it needs the voltage regulator in back of dash pack replaced to maybe get good readings or should i wright it off and go back to the aftermarket gage pack.
One i really want to know is accurate temp. As this it gets hot here during day time in summer.
As for the other gages I do not know what to tell you.... I would first check grounds and then maybe do the voltage regulator and see what happens. Hard for me to give an opinion.....
if U mean on the gauge cluster itself, yes - they go bad easily, R replaced easily.
I followed "Kevin's" directions. He is a high volume, quality restorer for all such instruments (antique boats & planes, cars, etc). I like his idea of a 10 $ white face/black #s & ltrs, and a $30 led light update from 1 of the typical vendors. He's over on the CB site.
Had to resolder the ends as the age was making the wires crack.
Now.
Ought ot go get a new 30$ harness huh
Have to figure out what happened to main gas tank reading...
Works fine on saddle tank but not on rear tank.
Sending unit reads varying ohms as you move the float up and down. Switch on dash shows continuity on all postiions.
Guess i need to chase wires next.
Heard that you can power 12 volts thru the sending wire and see if gage moves.
Never really tried that before.

got EB into the shop last nite...
I had a aftermarket Ford fuel gage so just hooked directly to the tank and it worked fine...so my feed somewhere went bad from back to front on main tank.
BTW
the m715 is a 1968 ....
all that is not ford on it is body and frame. They were 5/4 ton trucks for the Marine Corps.. We turned it into a crawler. 435 trans, 5.89 gears.40" swampers. Highest lift springs you can get from James Duff. Working on roll cage now. Truck is 93" high, 6200 lbs.... Can get a little spooky on some of our trails around here...Chile Challenge starts next week but I dont think we will have roll cage ready for it.

there's a rear harness. has a plug close to the tank on driver's side.
"the m715 is a 1968"
it's a dodge power wagon? or am I thinking of something different (?M7? open fenders, 6 cyl, NauwOlins style porch-railing for the frnt-grill-protector, oe military I believe?). ur avatar is dark on my 'puter & I have old eyes (nothing else I assure U) so can't C, but that might B it?
The local loging co. has the over the road tractor cousin for sale here. It is a single screw duelie so imagine THAT as a crawler...
somewhere from back tank to front of dash the original wire went away
rewired the bronco last nite all is kool....
Guess all those years in the water finally caught up with itNo the 715 is not a powerwagon
it is a Kaiser jeep military pick up.
Google the m715 zone if you get time
quite a place
Thanks for the idea...
I didn't do too well, tho. I got over there easy, went thru the FAQ, etc. Could not do what I wanted - to see a few pic so I can compare the kiser to the other 2 or 3 contractors the 'guvment' used for the war effort. I know the (incorrectly named) dodge power wagon fairly well. The Kaiser is new to me (esp. since the name is like the country the allied were fighting - interesting, no?). I think there was a sedan or a coupe they put out as well. Then @ some point they may have merged w/Nash? put out a KaiserNash? then sorta went outta buziness?
the March issue of a 4WD mag "JP" (for jeep - I assume, it's full'a dem) seems 2 have 2 references to this vehicle. p. 16 has a pic (so I finally SEE one) w/a hood open. The "battery review" article has a reference to the truck as a "flat fender" I believe (is that it's nick name?) and a pic on p. 26. "The 6,500 lb vehicle will... serve as a winch station ..." These 2 pic remind me of my bronk 1/2 cab w/the windshield down. It is a straight-across-the-door-tops kinda thing like how I keep the bronk. Do U know where I can C 1 w/a top ON?
Thanks...
On dial up so fewer bits and only a few @ a time prob. wrks best. See my address in my signature.
Thanks - all hail to wheeling country -NEW MEXICO- !!!
