Noise from backend when over 45mph

When I get over 45MPH, I notice a whop, whop sound. It speeds up as my speed increases. I have had the tires check and rebalanced, but that wasn't it. I have tried just revving the engine when in neutral, but I don't hear the noise.
Could it be u-joints, or is there something else?

What kind of tires?

Have you swapped them back to front?

Any heat--finger-burning heat--on the ends of the axle shafts after a few miles?

Have you had the tires rotated to see if the noise moves to a different spot? I've had badly worn tires make a similar noise.

When it makes this noise, do you "feel" anything? - how do the brakes feel?

When was the last time the fluids were checked in the transmission and rearend?

What year truck is this?

I have a 99 Ranger
It has BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires on it. I had them balanced and rotated in November. I can't remember if I started hearing the noise immediately or a month or so later.
So I had them rebalanced. I didn't get them re-rotated because I like changing just one thing at a time when troubleshooting, but now I wish that I had.
I will try rotating them tonight and see if the noise changes.
I haven't noticed the heat that you said. I guess you are thinking wheel bearings.
I don't feel any vibrations when I hear the noise, or when braking and taking off.
It has a manual transmission. I checked the transmission fluid and changed the differential fluid last week.
My plan is to rotate the tires tonight. If I don't notice anything different, I was going to check the u-joints. There doesn't seem to be any play in them, so I planned to remove the driveshaft and inspect them.
Do you have any other suggestions?

Does it change on deceleration or acceleration? Does it change if you push in the clutch and put it in neutral? Will pulling the emergency brake (and only the emergency brake) change it? If you have a spare, you can try mounting it first one position and then another to see if you get a change.

Whats that paw always says? things to ponder!

Last night I rotated the tires. My truck is definitely quieter this morning. I am going to drive it for a few days to see how it does.
Thanks for all of the help.

Do a good inspection of each tire, look for separation of the belts, bubbles in the rubber, etc. I have had a few separate yet still hold air in my life and missed one of them that was giving me a similar description.

I looked them over last night as I was rotating them. I couldn't see anything.
It is a strange problem.
Thanks

Do you have a spare? If so, like I mentioned, try swapping it on, then switch to another location and see if you can isolate it to a tire/rim combo. Still may not be the source, but it will give you data.
