I have an 02 ccsb F250 with the 5.4, and was wondering who has done a gear change to the 430s? How much will it end up costing to have them installed? If you have had it done, how much did it help with driveability? How much more to add lockers? Thanks for your answers.

The rough rule of thumb is $2000 for a 4 wheel drive truck. Members who have switched to 4.30 gears all say the same thing:
WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO DO THIS?
Adding a locker should not be much more in labor, since they are in the differential anyway, but I would research the different types of lockers carefully and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of running a locker with members who do have one.
I had my gears changed to 4.56s and I love them. I am running 35"s so I went a little deeper than 4.30s. You should consider what you are doing with the truck and what size tires. My truck sees a lot of highway and not as much towing as before. I sometimes I went with the 4.30s but the drivability of the 4.56s are amazing with the 35"s, but it has affected my highway MPG by about 1-2 mpg unloaded. But my towing MPG is almost the same as unloaded. Before gear change I would get 6-8 mpg with 5k - 6k lbs but now I remain at about 10-11 mpg loaded with the same weight. I was impressed.
I wish I would have gone with detroit lockers when the gear change was done but as redford said it was $2000 for the gear swap and then it would have been another $1000 or so for the lockers. I have been told that lockers are great for offroad (obviously), but on the road be careful not to goose it around corners because your tuck will loose its *** and it will be tokyo drift time.
