What tranny cooler is everyone running out there? my truck is pretty much stock but the cooler that came from the donor looks like it got ran over by a steam roller... I'm not looking for a high end piece just well priced and efficient. thanks
That's a tube and fin cooler. I would never install one of those on something I wanted to cool. They work poorly, if at all.
You need a stacked plate design. The way to tell the difference is that a bad cooler has one tube that snakes back and forth. A stacked plate has two tubes, one on each side (or top and bottom) and many plates that connect them. This has much less restriction and MUCH better cooling.
A cooler for a 2003-2007 6.0L truck is the best trans cooler you can get.
OK guys, sorry to butt in, butt could i use an hvac coil and plumb it inline to cool the trans? I've got 4 commercial units that were working (no leaks) but the crew was gonna toss them. i believe they are 20' x 20' with a 3/8 copper coil. if so, i would be happy to take photos and send them to who ever can use them.

There is NO WAY that a 20 foot by 20 foot (20'x20') cooler would fit in the truck.
Now if you had a 20"x20" (20 inch x 20 inch) cooler and it is a stacked plate design it should work.
yeah i was gonna hang it out the bed, like a sail. hahahaha sorry.
anyway now your getting past my vocabulary, and memory. (i just saw the copper $) i believe it looked like the mishimoto posted earlier. apparently those don't work so good. ill take a photo and post tomorrow.
