2008 6.4 injector problems

2008 6.4 injector problems
My son has a 08 F250 with 6.4. All of a sudden this last week it started knocking (not a rod knock but close). Replaced fuel and water separator filters which helped a little. So took truck to dealer and code indicated cyl 5 injector stuck open. They replaced and additional code indicated cyl 4 & 6 bad. They replaced and checked fuel and found contamination so they now want to replace high pressure pump. Truck is not covered by warranty cause of salvage title. So trying to get insurance to cover since dealer thinks fuel was contaminated. Insurance company wants to due fuel analysis but I'm afraid it won't show anything. Dealer says this is rare for 6.4 and they think fuel was contaminated. My question is
1. Has anyone had this happen before and what caused it?
2. Should we have the oil analyzed also?
3. Any other ideas?

Was there any residue or anything on your fuel filters? I lost the entire fuel injection system on one of my 08's but never had a knocking sound just loss of power at various intervals. You could step on the fuel pedal and the engine would rev up but wouldn't have any acceleration.

You can do a search on this forum, there have been several of these over the past few years. Water in fuel does a job on these fuel systems. If my memory is good all the others got insurance to pay cause Ford won't pay under warranty for bad fuel. It's a tough call but I'd do the anaylsis. Insurance won't pay without it so if the water doesn't show up you're not out anything. Or do it and see it before you send it to insurance,
