just got this bronco a week ago. What should i do. It hasnt run in about 3 yrs. has 302. I got a new batterie in it put a little fresh gas and tried given some either. It will not start just turns over really good. Anything that i could try to get her goin. i been dumping gas down the intake thats the only way she will run andonly for about 15 or so seconds. i plan on changing out the fuel filter but i took the fuel line off and the gas draining back out looks pretty clear but does smell a little bad. i think the pump is kicking on but if i dont put any gas down the intake she wont do a thing but turn over. like i said if i put some gas in the intake she fire right up and run but thats all.
Honestly if its been sitting for 3 years, I would change ALL fluids and filters, change the plugs, cap and rotor. Possibly even wires. I would also highly recommend dropping the fuel tank and seeing how it looks inside. First though, check the fuel pressure at the rail. You will need a pressure tester. If it holds at 40 PSI after the pump primes, then the pump is good. If it is good, back-probe the injectors to see if they are firing. It sounds like a fuel delivery issue.
I tried getting a tester at napa yesterday. They didnt have any so my search continues. I really dont plan on changing anything till i know it runs. I dont wanna spend all that money and have it not being able to run. I do plan to do it but after i get her going.
You don't neccesarily have to drop the tank. WHen you replace the fuel filter jsut unhook the line and then turn key on and let the pump drain the old gas out into a can. You should be able to see if theres anything in the gas, once its almost empty then fill the tank with fresh fuel. The full tank of new gas should neutralize the remaining bad gas in the tank for the most part.
Def check the pressure at the rail. A full tune up as Evan mentioned would be the first thing I'd do as well.
