Maybe someone can answer my question. I have a 99 f 550. With A 7.3. It had a zf6 trans. It took a catastrophic crap. I have found several 5 speeds does anyone know I it will fit. I'm sure the bolt pattern is the same. As all 7.3 s are. The same. Just didn't know about cross member issues and driveshaft. Thanks for any help.
You need a zf 6 speed from a 7.3 diesel, the same in f250, 350, 450 and 550 with the 7.3. You are looking at trucks from 1999 to 2004.5 all sizes above for a donor tranny. The 5 speeds were pre 1999. The zf 6 from 2004.5 and beyond is largely the same, in fact a newer zf you may be able to swap the bell housing from a newer one from your truck and be up and running. These are the 6.0 diesel trucks, but it's the bell housing which changed then to mate to the 6.0. I am pretty sure a good wrecking yard can source one for you and it's should be inexpensive, especially if you take it out, by a new clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and slave cyclinder and y ou will be good to go.
the 99 came with a 5 speed, but they are rare and hard to find.
you will need a diesel trans, the bell housing is integral with the trans case and not changeable. also , the gas and diesel trans uses different bell housings.
i have asked what engine it is for.
it is obvious the seller has no idea what he is selling because unlike what he claims, the gas and diesel transmissions are not the same.
Ok. Thank u for the help. I have been a ford diesel tech for 23 yrs just never came across this issue before. Baught a 99 f550. Runs great condition just someone blew up the trans and kept it. So I need one for it. Looking for options. Thanks. Mike.
