For starters, big thanks to all the members of this forum! Your posts have helped me with many issues with my trucks. Now I have a new problem... Long story super short, 97 f150 4.6 Romeo, lots of valve train noise, showing low pressure after going down the road a while. I've used a mechanical gauge and verified everything, tried different oil weights and most importantly, yes, I've read all the related threads I could find and it looks like others have had the same problem and it was a clogged oil restrictor. My questions are where is the oil restrictor on the motor and where do I buy replacements? Or is this a piece that's out of production that I'll have to manufacture myself? Thanks in advance for any and all help.
The oil pump is driven off the front area of the crank.
It has an oil pressure relief valve to limit pressure not restrict it.
It's possible the relief valve is stuck off seat or the spring is broken that it works against.
The pump can be replaced by removing the front cover and hardware , timing chains etc..
I would replace with a new pump after having to remove all the hardware to get at it for any work.
good luck.
Thanks for the reply, and I'm aware of the relief valve, but that's been checked and everything was working appropriately. In another thread, someone specifically mentioned the oil flow restrictor and mentioned it being near the rear of the head, but didn't mention which side or where to get a replacement. All the replacements I've found are for race motors and not suitable for hydraulic lifters.
In each head is a flow restrictor and filter screen to the valve train.
I thought you were measuring main oil pressure.
Only need to remove them and do the cleaning.
One on the driver side is toward the front.
Not sure about the pass side location.
Good luck.
