Compression Test

Hey everyone. I have a misfire in the #2 cylinder (scanner confirmed) that is still present even after replacing the #2 COP, spark plug and confirming that the injector is ok.

I plan to run a compression test to see if my head gasket is blown or if there's some other issue(s). I know I have to disconnect all the COPs and Fuel injectors, but since I know the #2 cylinder is misfiring do I have to remove all the other plugs. I'm thinking I don't need to remove them since I know which cylinder is bad, but just checking to make sure.

Thanks...Al

No you do not have to remove other spark plugs. But I suggest removing at least one other and also doing a compression test there for a point of reference.

Hey Alloro thanks for the response. I should've stated that I do plan to perform a compression test on the #1 and possibly #3 cylinder.

I believe it's the head gasket because it's leaking oil on that side (can see it) and I've been reading about Ford's misstep with this vehicle regarding the passenger side heads. I can probably forget about calling Ford to see what they can do for me. I can do the work myself, but contemplating just cutting my losses and going with a new vehicle (definitely not another Ford truck though) and get whatever the dealer gives me for the truck. I replaced the transmission about 2 years ago (paid Ford for that job) and found out that they had issues with the trannies, too. I replaced the entire air suspension system, too, and now this. I granny this truck and have had nothing but major issues. Again, I am contemplating just cutting my losses and going with something new. Ok, I just needed to vent.

My Mustang - not one issue with it, but this truck, whew....

Again thans Alloro.

Al

Update:

I did the compression test today and all seems fine. I tested the #2 cylinder and the dry reading was 180 psi and the wet was about 185 psi to 190psi. I tested #5 for reference and the readings were pretty close. I could not test #1 because the plug is seized in the head (working on getting it out) and #3 is just a bit#@# to get at. So now I am going to test to see if I am getting spark on cylinder #2. Any other ideas fellas/ladies. Does anyone know what the proper psi readings should be?

Thanks...Al

Having 180 PSI is nothing to worry about.

Cool.

2nd Update:

The strangest thing happened. When I put everything back together and started it up to move it out of the garage, I immediately noticed the truck was not missing (bumping), so I took it for a drive and she's driving as smoothly as the day I got it (well not that smooth, but...). I don't know what happened, maybe it's a loose wire or something. I will just drive it and see what happens, at least I know the motor is ok - dodged a bullet.
