hello i have been doing lots of reading on this site and thanks to mark as well i think i have found my problem but now dont know how to tackle the job i will be buying a solenoid pack and installing it now that i feel that its the problem after lots of investigation but well i am doing that i have a question that i think many of you can answer well i have a 03 f350 7.3 diesel i plow snow haul salt sand in a 8 foot dump box insert and in summer i haul dirt and equipment on a 18 foot flat deck trailer should i put in a shift kit or something else of some kind or/and a trans cooler the only thing is i am pritty good at mechanical stuff but when it comes to the transmission i am lost is a shift kit trans cooler hard to install or what do you guys recommend thanks
After you get the solenoids installed with a new filter and trans fluid Mobil 1 AFT synthetic. I would install a trans temp gauge to monitor the trans fluid temp. If the temps goes over 200-225 degrees, then I would add a large transcooler or a cooler from the 6.0. Once you have the temp in control. I then would tackle a shift kit. I would also get an oil analysis done on the fluid periodically just to make sure the fluid stays good and no problems arise. With that said, I have 265,000 miles on my 4R100. I have installed a temp gauge and a magna fine in line filter. I pull a sample once a year and send to Blackstone. I change the fluid out at 20,000 miles per Blackstone recommendation. I haven't yet needed a repair to this transmission. I do haul a cabover camper and tow a goose neck horse trailer. Maintenance is the key to longevity in these transmissions.
(IMO).....Hope this helps with your questions.
