It only acted up those 2 times and has not done it again. Which makes it more annoying because if I take it back to the dealer they won't be able to find anything wrong. So I guess I will just wait to see if it starts doing it again. Now that it is warmer maybe I will try to crawl around tomorrow and see if I can find anything loose.
I fail to see what this has to do with the engine being an ecoboost? Titles like this one are mis leading.
Oh, my gosh....
You must have this thread confused for one of those useless debate threads. This thread is about a real issue with a real person. Respect that. Respect him. Show some compassion.
This is a current problem in cold climates. Ford is aware of it. What is happening is condensation is forming in the intake as the engine cools down so in the morning when you are trying to start the truck their is to much water in the intake for the engine to deal with. This will happen more in colder climates more than in warmer climates. Ford has a fix for the problem.
Don't mean to dig this one back up but my 2013 seems to be doing this same thing up in NY. I have an appointment at the dealer next week but since the no-crank seems to me intermittent I wanted to give them some guidance in case the truck is shy to show them the issue.
The battery is new as of last month, so I don't think it's that, was it the starter solenoid/relay or just some wiring that you know of?

Welcome to the forum, Brennan Thierry; I'm glad that you'll be visiting your dealership soon. How many miles are on the truck currently? I'll research some ways to help out.

There are only about 8500 miles on the truck (this one was an easy one for the CPO techs!)

Thank you!
Thanks for the quick reply, Brennan. Let me know how your appointment goes next week. I'll be able to step in and help (if needed) once they've diagnosed your truck.
No when I turn the key to ON the Ford animation on the display in the instrument panel starts, the fuel gauge comes up, the radio display comes on, everything looks normal. Then when I turn the key to START, nothing. Its kind of like if the engine is already running it just does nothing when you turn the key to start (on some newer vehicles, not sure if this truck does that or not, never tried). If you keep holding the key in the START position after about 4-5 seconds everything on the dash will turn off and start back up again.
It is definitely something electronic. Just thought I would check and see if anyone else had experienced this. It is entirely possible a wire or something didn't get tightened at the factory or there is a defective sensor or solenoid somewhere. Sounds like it is an isolated incident so I will just have the dealer check it out.
HI I am having the exact same problem with my 2011 f150 as you had with your 2012. I was just wondering if you ever found out what the problem was? Can you let me know. Thanks
I never did fix the problem. Just last week it did it to me again a few times. It seems like the starter solenoid to me. It only does it when it is about -5 or colder (one morning it was -7, the other morning it was -10). If I plug in the truck I don't have a problem. I guess it only happens a few times a year so I just dealt with it.

Ya mine only seems to do it when it's cold also. Mine seems to do it about - 20C. I to was leaning towards the solenoid. Christmas day I was at the father in laws which is bout a 20 minute drive from my home. Truck sat out for about 6 hours, went out to start it. Got nothing. Thought maybe it needed a boost. He started his vehicle, I figured I'd go out and try mine again. Sure as hell, fires right up.
Other day it was - 23C. Had been in shopping in the city which is an hour drive from home. Drove it around all day, starting and stopping all day. Went in to go bowling, came out 2.5 hours later. No go. Tried turning the key multiple times, still nothing. Popped the hood, looked around. Didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Closed the hood, hopped in & tried again. Fired right up.
I've also had it not start from my garage trying to use the command start. I'm gonna try getting mine into the dealership mid February. They probably won't be able to decipher the problem unless it's doing it at the time. Might be best off if it would just conk out and not start. Then they'd have to find out what the cause is.
Has anyone found a smoking gun on this one? I'm having the same issue on my '14. A couple of weeks ago it started occasionally not cranking on the first turn of the key, second time it fired up. Then it stopped and it was normal for the last week. Today the temp dropped to 17 and it wouldn't crank. I took the battery in and it tests fine. I hear one faint click somewhere when it won't crank. Once it cranks it does so strong and normal.
I'm thinking the best thing to do, for starters, is go connection by connection to the solenoid and clean everything up. Including the Solenoid ground.
