This may sound strange but when it's been cold my windshield wipers have been moving more slowly than normal. is this a sign of the motor needing replacement or is this normal?
Could be, but I wouldn't think it would struggle too much as long as you have good cleaner in it and not a mix with water. A couple suggestions that I did to my last Excursion when I lost all driver's side spray and had generally weak spray:
- Make sure the nozzles are clean/clear
- Suck ALL of the old fluid out of the washer bottle (can be kind of a nasty brown in the bottom). I used a fluid extractor kit from Harbor Freight (really good product for many things). Then refill the bottle with all new quality fluid.
- Replumb the cowl fluid lines. Remove the cowl panels, pull the hoses, use them as templates to cut new, and install the new ones. I reused the T-connectors and L-connectors. I replaced the tubing all the way forward as far as I could easily see it. Basically, the hose goes over top of the components in front of the blower/HVAC unit and then goes to a right angle piece that turns it down somewhere to a pump. I stopped at that T.
You will probably be surprised at how all this greatly improves flow. Mine went from a system that I thought a pump might be going bad to an almost new-working system.
