i have an 84 f150 with a t19 in it. the trannys toast from being driven with no fluid in it by the previous owner. i have m5r2 from another truck and want to swap it in. now i know the basics on the swap but will i need to get a clutch from the newer f150 or can i reuse my current clutch it has mayby 5k on it
I think you might have issues with hydraulic clutch vs mechanical clutch, but I don't know a whole lot about it. That is something you might want to look into.
My '84 is a hydraulic clutch, so I would imagine yours is too. If so, you have the hard part already done. You just connect the hydraulic hose to the M5 trans and it's good to go. You can quickly tell if yours is already hydraulic by popping the hood and seeing if there's a master cylinder bolted to the firewall right next to the brake booster.
As for the clutch itself. I'm not 100% sure. Looked up part numbers for the different years, and even though they have the exact same specs (10" clutch, 1 1/16" inner diameter, 10 tooth), the part numbers were slightly different.
I don't see why it wouldn't work, but never know. Maybe call a local transmission shop and see what they think?
