February BS
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
"Please schedule a date and time to install a breaker for the dryer circuit (240 V, 30 A). This replaces the one that was swapped out for the interlock position. I would like an appointment February 1st or later, the sooner the better.
While you are here, I would appreciate it if you would look over the following four jobs, and then give me a fixed-price quote after you have looked up prices.
1. Reinstall top two peel-off clamps for the drop wire, and manicure as needed.
2. Take down antenna wires.
3. Replace eight foot baseboard resistance heater.
4. Move the four pin generator connector to the outside garage wall.
Thank you. I hope to hear from you soon."

1. Wed, Feb 6, 2013 between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM, is okay with me. *If this is too confining, please let me know.
2. I would like to have a fixed price for tasks 1 through 4 described below (prior message).
* *To facilitate that, I would like to know in advance the material cost for the 8 foot heater. *I am anticipating that your price will be something like: (at Home Depot) Cadet Model # 8F2025W (SKU 138715) $67.98 + your inventory surcharge. *Please make this concrete.
* *The labor cost for the entire package (and minor small item material costs) can be developed once you have looked things over.
3. Other miscellaneous items will be needed, which no doubt you routinely have on the truck:
- In order to relocate the L14-30 connector, it appears that it will be necessary to make a splice, and, if I understand correctly, an inside junction box will be needed for the splice;
- a few feet of 10/4 SOOW cable;
- I have the old clamps but two more could be used for parking the antenna wires;
- small items, such as wire nuts and screws. *I have all kinds of common nails which is one method for refastening some shards of the wooden shingles.
This is just for your information -- advance pricing is not needed.
4. Please note that the dryer breaker was paid for within invoice #1089 (11/2/11).*
Thank you, DZ
DZ,
The heater will be 77.50 plus tax, or $82.42.
Figure under $20 for other parts.
$270 for labor for all.
Total parts incl. tax $103.69.
Total labor no tax $270.00
Grand total $373.69

Brendon,
Thank you for getting back to me. Unfortunately, the quote for jobs 1 through 4 is declined (but see limited possible exception below). I looked over your quote carefully and found that the material cost for the heater is quite reasonable. However, the labor cost for jobs 1 through 4 exceeds my budget. Hence, regretfully, I must decline.
Limited Possible Exception
The present situation is that the drop wire lacks the upper 2 clamps. I am proposing that when you are here to to do the breaker installation, that you could refasten the upper 2 clamps. There is no material cost for the 2 clamps as I have retained those. I seem to have 3 out of the 4 needed fully threaded sheet metal screws. I have a large collection of fully threaded sheet metal screws, from which one can be selected to make up the fourth and last clamp screw. It looks like the time to position and mount the ladder, screw in the 2 clamps, and dismount and deposition the ladder is 1/3 hour. On this basis, therefore, I propose that you commit to a fixed price cost of $30.00 for the job of putting in the 2 clamps. This is based on the 2011 quoted rate of $90.00 per hour.
Thank you so much for your attention to this matter. I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM. Please note that the installation (parts and labor) of the dryer breaker has been paid for.
Best regards, DZ
I usually just tell people that if they know what they want and how they want it done they should do it themselves. (and NOT to call me when their hose burns down)
I'm taking my Fusion to get an insurance estimate from being rear-ended last week. Very little visible damage, but he hit me hard enough to shove me forward a couple of feet. The screws holding in his front license plate took chunks out of the plastic bumper cover, so I'm guessing they'll have to replace it.
Can anyone recommend a good body shop somewhere between East Hartford and Union?
