AETC Not working properly

I have a 2006 f250 with a 6.0, and the other day I was driving and the temp in my cab wasn't getting warm when I had my AETC on auto set at 72 degrees. I had to increase the temp to 82 just to get heat in my cab and use then use the manual setting for the blower. The one thing that I did notice is that the exterior temp says its like 74 outside (I wish it was 20). I did a self check on the AETC and it didn't show any codes. I was hoping for some ideas on what might be the problems I was thinking a sensor? Or is it the head unit

This is what happened to my '05 when the head unit went out on it. It was followed by the display going out permanently and the EATC not working at all.
