i have a 2000 super duty 7.3 with 315/75r16 BFG A/T load range D tires on 10 inch rims im picking up a 4000 lb camper tomorrow i know i should have E rated tires but my question is what tire pressure should i run?
thanks guys
I have 35x12.50x16.5 BFG's,that are D rated. I run the max rated psi which is 50psi and have no problems with my camper. The tires are rated for 3415 lbs per tire, which is more than alot of E rated tires. Some day I will pony up and get some different rims so I can run an 80psi E rated tire, but am very happy with the BFG's for now!
Is that a 4000lb truck camper, meaning all of that weight is in the bed of the truck? If so, be very careful. That's a lot of weight and you will most likely be over every single weight rating - tires, axles, gvwr. I hope you're not traveling very far with it.

Huh? I have a camper that is close to that wt and i am not even close to max GVW and i some times pull a 5000lb boat with the camper on.If each tire can take 3400lbs that means the back 2 tires can take 6800lbs. How do you figure he would be over wt? Just curious. Roy
Have you ever weighed your truck? Mine comes in at just about 7000lbs unloaded. That only technically leaves 1800lbs or so to reach the GVWR. That being said, my GVW when towing is over that number as well, but the pin weight of my 5th wheel is about 2200lbs. 4000lbs in the bed of a SRW truck is a lot. The RAWR is 6084lbs, I would be willing to bet that number is easily exceeded with 4000lbs in the bed. I may be assuming a lot here, but I can tell you that the pin weight of my 5th wheel is about the most I would want to carry on a SRW truck and it is much less than 4000lbs.
ETA : And please don't take what I'm saying as preaching. I wrestle with my own weight issues pulling our ~14klb 5th wheel. I just want the OP to know what he's getting himself into.
With the cabover it transfers some of the weight to the front of truck. It feels way better than having 2 tons of rock or wood pellets in the bed. I also installed air bags and torklift overload bumpers and am very happy with the way it goes down the road!

Per the side wall of your tires.
And check the tire pressure of your trailer tires and tighten up the lugs on your trailer tires.....
when I used to run 315's......empty I would run them at 40 psi, towing 50 psi, which is the max pressure for that size tire, but definitely check your sidewall specs.

I hear ya. But, have you ever scaled how much wt is acutually over the rear wheels in an empty truck? Not much. Over the front, alot more. So acutually those 4 tires could take close to 14000lbs when you divide the total wt by 4. You really need to take into acount how the wt is distributed. When i pull my boat with my camper on i make sure the tongue wt is about 200lbs and i have no problems towing and the truck handles great. I do have air bags though. I have scaled my axles individually before but can`t recall the exact #s. I believe the rear was some around 1500kgs and the front was 2200 kgs but i could be wrong.
